Joy Williams is a celebrity hairstylist, the Creative Director of Joy Williams Beauty brand, and the owner of JW Studios, Houston's Premiere Multicultural Salon. A Published Beauty Writer, Joy's articles can be found in Oprah Magazine, Insider Magazine, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Martha Stewart , American Salon, and more! Before launching out on her own, Joy was an Executive Master Educator and Master Platform Artist for CHI/Farouk Systems for over 5 years and was the first Black Woman On- Air Personality for CHI Haircare on the Home Shopping Network. Joy was a Key Hairstylist for CHI at the Miss USA Pageant 2019 and Miss Universe 2019 and was the hairstylist behind the history-making natural hair look for Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst. She also worked with Miss Teen USA 2019 Kaleigh Garris after her win and was a Lead Stylist for Miss Universe 2019. Joy has the versatility to work with all hair types and textures and is a Texture and Color Specialist. An expert in the field of hair extensions, she is a certified Hair Extension Technician and works with hair extensions, wigs, and hair pieces. Joy is also a Certified Trichology Practitioner and frequently works with clients experiencing severe hair trauma such as alopecia and chemo-therapy.
Her true calling was realized while studying Government/Pre-Law at The University of Texas at Austin. Consequently, she attended and excelled at Paul Mitchell the School in 2008. She then started her full time career in the beauty industry working backstage at pageants, fitness competition and fashion shows. Joy also has worked backstage at New York Fashion Week. She and her team provide hair and makeup services for film and television production, runway shows, editorial and commercial shoots, local and destination weddings and much more. Joy has received numerous awards and honors including a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for Health and Beauty by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and is a 2014 award recipient of the Top 40 under 40- Houston's Next Generation of Leaders.
A true testimony of perseverance, Joy survived a traumatic childhood including multiple foster homes, abandonment and physical and sexual abuse all before the age of 10. She battled with depression while excelling in school with the hope of becoming CEO of her own company, a dream she's had since the age of 5. During college, a domestically violent relationship threatened her life and through counseling and intervention she overcame suicide and defeated her personal demons.
Today Joy offers mentorship and life coaching to professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs as well as hosts various inspirational workshops such as Vision Board Parties for Teens and Adults (Virtual now available) and her newest program Manifestation Mantras: How to Manifest the Life you Desire.
